Austria's musical heritage includes the talent and legacy of composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Josef Haydn, Johann Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms and so many others. Globally renowned for their incredible gifts, they have left their mark in the world history, while the Austrian capital city earned itself the title of a City of Music.

Today locals can be found enjoying musical performances for free on any given warm evening as a big screen gets placed on the façade of the 18th century State Opera. Emerging young composers find their paradise in Vienna, where visiting classical concerts has become a regular monthly activity for the locals, who state that music is deeply embedded within their culture.

Vienna was the home and inspiration for those great thinkers and musicians. Nearby the St Stephen’s Cathedral is Mozart's apartment and composing spot, while a house across the busy Ringstrasse once served as the home of Beethoven and his undying symphony Für Elise. Down the cobbled streets and boulevards, you would be walking in the footsteps of some of the greatest music creators of all time. The former home of Johann Strauss for example can be found near the city centre where the river gave him the idea of composing the Blue Danube waltz. Iconic bars can be found across the entire city. All kinds of individuals from opera lovers to artists and even students, all of whom overpopulate most of these venues, all gather under the cigarette smoke and jazz music sounds to appreciate the mixture of modern and nostalgic Vienna, ever evolving and memorable of its iconic music scene.

Today Vienna is the place to experience a high-class performance, improved only by the amusing venues that host such events. The Wiener Musikverein, for example, was acoustically renowned to reach the practice and performance standard of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. With its shiny chandeliers, angelic finishes, crystal glitters and golden elements, this classical concert hall hosts iconic composers and musicians all year round. Alongside the eye-catching exhibits at the Haus der Musik museum, the various Konzerthaus and venues like the Staatsoper, it is of no wonder why the Austrian capital city is vital for the global musical scene.
