Photography and travel go hand in hand. We love to visually explore destinations and to immerse ourselves in the culture of different nations. The beauty of cultural diversity is everywhere. Yet, it doesn't necessarily get as much attention and praise as it should. We put together a list of eight trailblazing photographers who are changing the traditional cultural norms. Their portrait photography is honest and allows the viewer to connect with cultural diversity, inspiring us to appreciate one another more. In a world where photography reflects the way art meets culture, we love getting lost in the work of these talented artists and couldn't wait to share it with you.
How many of them do you already follow on Instagram?
Dean is a London-based photographer whose craftmanship can best be seen through the way he works with light. Many of the portraits he takes represent an ideal balance between his subject and the graceful shifting of sunlight. Up-close and personal, his work is stunning, brilliant and emotional.
Charlotte's work is minimalistic, elegant and thought-provoking. We fell in love the soft tones she uses and her unmistakable signature of pastel palettes that give her portraits a subtle glow. Working between Marseille and Paris, Charlotte's photography explores themes of art, culture and creativity.
Lev is a Russian photographer, whose style is as diverse as it is magnificent. His collection of carefully captured portraits vouches for the multidimensional scope of his skills behind a camera. Soft hues meet bolder expressions as each portrait follows an artistic evolution within Efimov's portfolio.
Julian-Edward "Jed" Tongol
Perhaps the thing that makes this photographer stand out the most is his implacable taste of artistic composition. Julian-Edward often shoots on film and the nostalgic element of artistry, talent and unquestionable creativity seems vividly emphasised by this approach. Tongol has a gift to capture his subjects in way that feels natural and unfiltered, which makes his portraits stunningly captivating.
Rafael has perfected the art of film photography. His style can be described through a narrative where unapologetic honesty meets artistic expression. His shots include unique portraits of sea nomads, Javanese people and even the reality of “favelas” in Rio. Rafael is Brazil-based photographer and glimpses of his culture often appear in his work, which made us love his photography that bit more.
Arturo is a creative who loves to experiment with colour, expressionism and style within his photography. His portraits are raw with a sort of sweet vintage feel that reminds us of another time while simultaneously bringing us so much joy. Arturo's work is stunning, raw and fun - definitely an artist who stands out with an ease and we are here for it.
A photographer and director, Mehran is one of the trendiest artists on the contemporary portrait photography scene. He is based between Berlin and Paris, and is not afraid to be different. His work is diverse, electric and reflects the beauty of multiple cultures. Mehran is a bold trailblazer who is here to change the norms and make the photography world more expressive than ever before.
Alex "Très Cool" Dobé
Alex has the ability to express a combination of art and culture in his work. His portraits are balanced, simplistic and mature. Alex is an artist who knows how to translate the energy of his subjects and express the feel of the moment when he captures these complex elements in his photography. His work puts a fresh take on the term 'cool' and we can't wait to see his future work.
